Awe is the response of a humble servant ready to do the bidding of the Lord. Here is Zechariah, still unable to speak after encountering the Presence of the Lord in the sanctuary. Fear overwhelmed him, unlike the awe that filled Mother Mary.
When God intervenes in our lives, our response will either be awe or fear. Awe is the response of a humble servant ready to do the bidding of the Lord. Fear is the response of someone who must work it all out to be at peace, but they never are.
The Lord waited patiently for Zechariah to come around, and he did when he named his son John. Despite Zechariah’s fear and doubt, God’s plan was not frustrated. Zechariah learned a valuable lesson. “Let God be God and me; I am only a humble servant.”
We don’t need human solutions to our problems in the world. We need a Savior.
Gospel Challenge
Is there something the Lord is calling you to do, and you are afraid of what might happen if you surrender to Him? You are about to enter the Kingdom of God. Renounce fear. Say yes to God with Mother Mary and Zechariah.
