Guidelines For Penitential PracticesDuring Season of Lent

All the faithful are obliged to do Penance.

  • Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of
    abstinence from meat and also of fast, that is
    limited to a single full meal and two small meals.
  • The other Fridays during Lent are days of
    abstinence from meat only.
  • Catholics from the ages of 18 to 59 are bound by
    the laws of fast.
  • Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday
    are bound by the laws of abstinence.
  • In addition, it is recommended that the Faithful
    participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass daily;
    receive the Sacraments of Penance and Holy
    Eucharist regularly; participate in Lenten devotions,
    especially the Stations of the Cross, family prayer,
    the reading of Holy Scriptures; and share the good
    things in our lives with our less fortunate neighbors.
