Father Rick’s Two Minute Homily for Tuesday, 4th Week in Ordinary Time

Never Give UP. 

The more challenging life gets, the better we get, or do we? I had two operations in my second and fourth years of the seminary. Both occurred in January, and each left me with a three-month recovery. I attended no classes, read no books, wrote no essays, and took no notes. Pain and study don’t mix too well. It left me six weeks to prepare for exams. I thought, “I’ll never make it.”

However, that wasn’t God’s plan. He put in my fellow students the desire to work with me. Their support was invaluable. They were there for me, inspiring and motivating me to overcome every obstacle and doubt I faced. Their faith in me was a testament to the power of community. I passed all the exams in both years, except Church History, and I missed it by two points. I passed it with flying colors, the second go around.

Maybe you have something that seems impossible like Jairus faced with his daughter and the woman with the hemorrhage who got no relief for 12 years. Faith, as I experienced, has the power to transform the impossible into the possible. It takes the difficulty out of my hands and frees me up to let God do whatever He wishes, no strings attached.

Gospel Challenge:
Our Fr. Founder, Blessed Antonio Rosmini, calls that virtue of trust “indifference.” This virtue leaves us open for God to have His way with us. Trust is unconditional faith in action. Where do you need to be indifferent to God so He can work His miracles?

Here I am, Lord. I abandon my life in Your hands. In this act of surrender, I find peace and comfort, knowing that I am in Your loving care.
