On this last day of 2024, where does the Lord want to make a fresh start in our lives? How appropriate that Mother Church chooses the opening Gospel of St. John with the words, “In the beginning.” And from his first letter, John writes, “It is the last hour.”
He’s got those two working together – the beginning and the last hour. What would you say the last hour is? Is it our plans, our ways of doing things? The Lord is teaching us that the last hour is when we choose and experience a new beginning in Christ Jesus every day.
That new time is right now; this is the last hour, the hour we must put up with all our ways of trying to save ourselves, healing ourselves, and making things right. Now is the time for an end of our way and a new beginning of God’s Way. It’s a new beginning.
