Do you ever find yourself reacting to someone or something that happens instead of responding in kind?
As Mary was with a child not of her betrothed Joseph, he could have put her to death according to Jewish law, but he didn’t. Zechariah could have divorced Elizabeth. Because she was barren, but he didn’t. According to the Law of Moses, both righteous men had reasons to abandon their wives for good reasons. God blessed these men’s commitment to their wives before the Lord!
God honors the love commitments we make with people. Zechariah would rather have Elizabeth as his wife and live with the curse of her barrenness and its shame rather than divorce her. Later, in the Temple, he doubted, but soon enough, he came to believe God could do the impossible.
It melts God’s heart when we choose to be faithful to Him in difficult times. He knows and appreciates how difficult it is for us to be asked to do the impossible for Him. He won’t forget it.
Difficult times with people are the raw material for God to work His miracles of grace.
Gospel Challenge:
Are you facing difficulty with someone or something that is too much to handle? Praise God! He is ready to work a miracle in your life. Pray with your heart, “Lord Jesus, I surrender myself to you. Take care of everything.” Peace in your heart is a good measuring stick.
