Remove the Scales from My Eyes.
How wonderful it is to belong to the family of Jesus we call the Church. The life and love he wanted to share with the world were too big to be passed on through a human bloodline. That would be just too limiting. So Jesus found another way. From his own experience, Jesus knew how close he drew to his Father when he did whatever his Father asked.
He also knew from his experience that doing the will of his Father was more than just being subservient to him. The word obedience is rich in its meaning, and we derive it from the Latin word “oboedire,” which means “to listen.” A person makes a conscious will to listen to someone because that person is essential to them And because they trust them.
So, in every situation and everyone Jesus encountered, he listened to his Father and did what was most pleasing to him. And why? Because he loved his Father. We do the same when we please the people we love, giving us great joy. So, delighting His Father gave Jesus great delight.
So, too, we don’t obey like servants of a master; we listen as children of a loving Father. Jesus tells us everything he learned from His Father.
Gospel Challenge:
Let us delightfully listen to His Word and ask for the grace to do His Father’s will. And why? Because we love him too.
Love Your Neighbor:
