Fr. Rick’s Two Minute Homily for Sunday, 19th Week in Ordinary Time
August 13, 2023, Matthew 14:22-33

What Wind? What Waves.?
When Peter began walking on the water, only faith in Jesus kept him from sinking, nothing else. Like Peter, the height of the waves bashing against us and the strength of the wind we battle in life’s challenges make no difference to Jesus and us. We can do anything with Him. Without Jesus, we can’t walk a step in His Way to Life.
Living in His Way of Life is exciting because God presents us with impossible things we cannot do ourselves. We must keep our eyes on Jesus. There are no distractions in His eyes, meaning each of us is His whole world. He will never fail us. Keep our focus on Jesus. Then the impossible becomes real for us and everyone else.
How do we keep our eyes on Jesus? Do not put our trust in anything but Jesus. And should we fail like Peter, Jesus will never leave us. He acted surprised when Peter began to sink. “O you of little faith, Why did you falter?”
Jesus tells us, “When I am your best friend, you will have great faith.” Faith and friendship are synonymous with Jesus. Prayer and the Sacraments keep Jesus in our presence.
Let us not fear obstacles and difficulties that arise in our days. Be a friend of Jesus when you wake up until go to bed. Share everything with Him. And when anything challenging comes along, even if it seems to crush us, we rejoice because we are about to experience miracles.
Gospel Challenge:
When Jesus invites you to walk on water with Him, recall this psalm, “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1.)
We need to grow in understanding how much Jesus is in Communion with us as we live our day.
Hear Jesus tell us what He said to the disciples after His Resurrection, “My brothers and sisters, be at peace. I am with you, and that is all that matters. The waves and the wind cannot harm you,”
Peace everyone.
