   Compliments – Who Needs Them?

We all enjoy a pat on the back. “Well done; I enjoyed that dinner, which was scrumptious.” A compliment always gives us a good feeling inside. What do I feel if nothing is said? The answer will reveal my motivation for why I do things for others. I could still tell how much they enjoyed it if no one said anything. No one was talking. That is what makes me happy. Who needs a compliment when everyone is happy and full.”

Jesus lets us in on what is behind everything He says and does. First is to please His Father, “I do not accept human praise.” Jesus doesn’t need a fan club. His only motive is to do what He sees His Father doing in Him. He calls this His testimony – working with His Father, never on His own. Secondly, his motive is to save us. “I say this so that you may be saved.” It’s all about His pleasing His Father and saving us.

The early Father of the Church had a pet saying, “The glory of God is man fully alive.” No one was more fully alive than Jesus; even when He breathed out His last breath, He was fully alive. He rose from the dead. No one can kill eternal life – Doing everything for God’s glory and other people’s good.

Gospel Challenge:

Try starting your day with a little prayer-filled intention – “Father, everything I do today is to please you. Stay with me.” We can get on with our day, knowing God is with us. If we cook dinner, we don’t need anyone to tell us it was good, and we are satisfied they are happy and full.
