Since the Supreme Court Roe versus Wade was leaked, 62 Catholic churches in the US and over 70 pro-life pregnancy centers have been vandalized. In response, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department is training our staff and volunteers. The saying goes, “It’s better to be safe than sorry.” So, I want to know we are doing everything possible to keep our school children and people in our parish safe.
In the gospel, Jesus told his disciples to cross the sea in a boat while he stayed back and prayed. Jesus knew the dangers they would face, yet he sent them. Let us take courage that our Lord is with us in all our storms. I take comfort that the night Jesus sent his disciples to cross the sea, He also had us in His heart of prayer.
We must keep our eyes on Jesus and not on the dangerous waves bashing against us. It is easy like Peter to get fixed on the waves and be overcome by fear. However, courage is born when we meet Jesus where He is, right in the middle of that danger walking on the sea. He calls us out of the safety of our boats into the grasp of his saving hand. Should that moment come, do not look away.
Notice: Immediately, Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him. He said, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” But the wind died after they got into the boat.”
If that moment comes when we are overwhelmed personally or socially, stand tall and walk on water with the Lord. Yes, we take all the precautions we can to protect ourselves. But when push comes to shove, Jesus is next to us as he was with the disciples, always offering His hand of support and courage. So, take it and have courage.
