I can’t help but relate to you the fantastic news that Jesus is still walking down that Emmaus road with each of us. Every celebration of the Mass is an encounter with Jesus on that road. It is broken up into two parts; the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, as we have today. For brevity, I want to share how we can get in touch with Jesus every time we worship Him in the Holy Eucharist.
Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we often don’t recognize the Real Presence of Jesus with us in His Word, so much is it wrapped in mystery. Likewise, some Catholics don’t believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in His Body and Blood. That lack of awareness and faith can quickly be resolved.
I take my cue from what Jesus did when he met Cleopas and his friend. He asked a question, “What were you discussing as you were walking along the road?” Of course, he knew the answer, but He wanted to hear it from them. He wanted to listen to their story. That’s how we get in touch and stay in touch with Jesus.
Consider what is happening in your life right now. The Lord has been walking the whole way with you, but you may not recognize Him. That’s ok. He understands. But He wants to get to know you as you are now.
He does that at the beginning of Mass when we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness. He wants us to know that nothing, even our sins, will keep him away.

WALKING WITH JESUS ON THAT ROAD
