It is hard to believe that two years ago we were all in the middle of Covid 19. As cases of Covid rose along with the hospitalizations and deaths, life changed for everyone. Many left their offices to work at home. Food and gas were the only shops open for business. For over three months we lived in isolation.
However, everyday our parish staff celebrated Mass in the church. The church was empty, but our hearts were full. After Mass we gathered around and discussed how we could keep the Faith alive for our people. We learned how to livestream the Mass and put it on Facebook and our Parish Website. Among other things, we wrote three letters to bolster the faith of people. One of those letters contained a small piece of a palm tree we blessed so our people could have a sense of being home with us on Palm Sunday. Our people responded financially so we never got behind in our bills.
I received a call from Megan Write of our diocese asking what we were doing at Blessed Sacrament. I sent her the letters we wrote and outlined all the steps we took. From that conversation she developed a program for the diocese to help parishes who were struggling financially.
As I reflect on these past two years, I am so grateful that our staff and parishioners came together to serve others, rather than waiting to be served. Please note that by helping one person along the way, you will be helping many people down the road.
Our parish family have a sense of belonging we never had before the pandemic. Let us never fear when times get rough. By God’s grace, His people step up to the plate and make a difference in the world. How many people will God bless because you chose to serve someone today?
