We can hardly turn on the news without hearing the murder of an innocent person or people. How can someone come to the point in their life when they will shoot into a house of a family with small children and not care who they hit? You may recall a couple innocent children recently killed in drive-by shootings.
On the Feast of the Holy Innocents we celebrate today, Herod sought the Child to destroy Him. He learned from the Three Wise Men that a King was born in Bethlehem. Feeling threatened, Herod didn’t care about the children nor the moms and dads in Bethlehem when he ordered boys two years old and younger to be murdered. How did Herod reach the point that he did not care about others? How do people today reach that point and not care how their action destroys the lives of others?
The Presence of the Christ-Child in others will either threaten us or comfort us. There may be someone in your life you really don’t care what happens to them. Do not be afraid. Ask Jesus in prayer what it is about them that threatens you? Ask St. Joseph to take you to Egypt, far away from this threat. He knows how to protect Jesus and you from this Herod who threatens you. He did it for Jesus. He can do it for you.
