September 24, 2021, FRIDAY 25TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Luke 9:18-22

"The harder things are in life, the more you go to God." Anonymous

Jesus doesn’t mince words with us. He tells the truth about life. But know this, any sufferings we experience in life, He experienced them first in His own life. Jesus told His disciples, "The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised."

In this gospel today from Luke, Jesus asks his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" He really wants them and us to know Him intimately. Peter declares in "The Christ" that He is the Anointed One of God. Then Jesus tells them he must be rejected, be killed, and rise on the 3rd day. Jesus is not only suffered for us, but he suffers with us today, so we can rise again with Him from all that troubles us. He is the same today, yesterday, and forever.

The gospel challenge: Someone told me recently who bore heavy sufferings in her life, "The harder things are in life, the more you go to God." The gospel for the Mass this morning began with, "Jesus was praying in solitude." Go to God in prayer with the hard things in life, for yourself or someone else. You will find He’s waiting for you. That’s intimate.

Ignite the fire. God bless you, my friends.
